Travel Tales#22
Almond blossoms in Israel are in full bloom, so I’ll begin this edition of “The Wandering Israeli Travel Tales” with a story that unfolded in the almond groves this morning….
On Kibbutz Magal, where I live, stand rows and rows of olive and almond groves. That’s where I go out for my daily strolls. I walk, sometimes run, and always talk to myself. Out loud. Mostly making up stories. If someone were to see me, it would be rather embarrassing, I’m sure.
When the almonds are blossoming like today, or when the fruit weighs down on the branches, or when I pour some olive oil, or just grab a few almonds, it always reminds me that there in the groves where I stroll, grow the stories now being told.
Sharing Israel with the World
Almost a year has gone by since we began performing “The Wandering Israeli” regularly in English at the Cameri Theater in Tel Aviv. (We’ll be there again March 26th and May 21st – Book tickets here). It’s been a challenge to get the show off the ground and into the public eye, but our persistence and determination to share Israel with the world is paying off!
We’ve steadily climbed up the TripAdvisor ranks (as you can see) as the only regular-running English show in Israel. Ticket sales to our Tel Aviv shows and soon Jerusalem Theater shows are increasing from month to month, and performances are being booked by communities worldwide!
Wandering Israeli in Dresden, Germany
Several months ago we were invited to perform in Germany, at the Dresden Jewish Culture Festival. Not only was it the first time for us performing in English in front of non-native English speakers, to top it off, on the very evening we were scheduled to perform, the Dresden City Council declared a state of “Nazinostand” – which means Nazi emergency.
So there we stood on that Dresden stage – determined to share with the people of Dresden a mighty gust of Wandering Israeli pride.
We’ll be happy to see you at the Cameri in Tel Aviv this Thursday, next month or throughout the year.
If a group from your community is visiting Israel, we can arrange a private show in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem or even here on Kibbutz Magal – where I’ll take you for a stroll to hear some of the stories blossoming in the olive and almond groves.
Until our paths meet again,
Elad, The Wandering Israeli
